The Paper Plane Paradox

Markets Beyond Gravity

We’re celebrating the explosive rise of AI — but very few are looking at the foundation it’s standing on.

The more I dug in, the clearer it became:

The AI boom feels a lot like watching a beautifully folded paper plane soar across a room — elegant, fast, and full of promise.

But eventually, paper planes land.

And what determines how they land isn’t the design…
It’s the physics underneath.

Here’s what I found.

Key Highlights

✈️ The boom is real — but so are the cracks

AI innovation is moving at incredible speed: agents, copilots, infra startups, vertical AI layers.
But the financial base supporting all of this is being stretched far beyond reality.

🧱 Hardware cycles aren’t matching accounting cycles

AI chips wear out in 2–3 years, yet it is reported that major players are depreciating them over five to six years.
That’s not technology — that’s accounting.

🔄 Money is moving in circles, not straight lines

Much of today’s “AI demand” is actually capital cycling inside the ecosystem:

NVIDIA → OpenAI → Azure → AMD → back into the system again.

It boosts valuations — but not fundamentals.

🚀 Innovation is exploding, even as the ground shifts

AI solutions are multiplying faster than ever — but they’re built on depreciation stretches and circular financing loops.
When reality catches up, the reaction could be sharper than most people expect.

🌍 It made me ask a bigger question

If AI is genuinely transforming the world — and it is —
why are we still relying on numbers that don’t reflect the real economics behind that transformation?

📈 A Quick Note on NVIDIA’s Latest Earnings

NVIDIA’s Q3 earnings were a massive “beat and raise”:

  • $57B revenue vs $54.9B expected
  • EPS of $1.30
  • Q4 guidance at $65B, well above expectations

The market celebrated instantly — AI stocks surged, futures flipped green, and sentiment turned sharply bullish.

But here’s the part that ties directly back to this post:

Blowout numbers don’t change the underlying reality — innovation is soaring, while the financial foundation behind the boom still needs a closer look.

The physics underneath the paper plane haven’t changed.
They’re just harder to see when the momentum is strong.

💬 What Do You Think?

How is the whole system justifying this pace?
Are we staying true to the fundamentals, or are we letting momentum overshadow the real economics beneath the boom?

We’re seeing record demand, record revenues, and unbelievable innovation — but also stretched depreciation cycles, circular financing loops, and valuations built on assumptions that may not hold forever.

So the real question is this:
Can the AI boom keep flying at this speed without the underlying foundation eventually demanding a correction?

I’d love to hear your perspective.
